摘要

In every country around the world, crime occurs, and when it does, victims suffer211u001ephysical injury, emotional pain, and financial loss. Crime victim compensation 211u001eprograms provide desperately needed financial assistance to help victims pay some 211u001eof the costs resulting from the crime such as uninsured medical and mental health 211u001ecounseling expenses, lost wages, and funeral expenses. The lists contact 211u001einformation for victim compensation programs located in 29 countries including 211u001ethe U.S. and the District of Columbia. We hope that you will use the Directory to 211u001ehelp link victims with the resources they need and deserve in the aftermath of 211u001ecrime. Federal law requires U.S. compensation programs to provide benefits to 211u001eState residents who are injured or killed by a terrorist attack while visiting a 211u001eforeign country. States are not required, however, to pay benefits when the crime 211u001eis not a terrorist act. Consequently, most States do not offer Victims any 211u001ecompensation for other crimes occurring outside the U.S. 'It is, therefore, 211u001eimperative that advocates inform crime victims that some foreign countries have 211u001ecrime victim compensation programs, and that in some cases, victims may be 211u001eeligible to receive benefits from the country where the crime occurred.'
