摘要

Low-impact development (LID) is a radically different approach to conventional211u001estormwater management. It is our belief that LID represents a significant 211u001eadvancement in the state of the art in stormwater management. LID enhances our 211u001eability to protect surface and ground water quality, maintain the integrity of 211u001eaquatic living resources and ecosystems, and preserve the physical integrity of 211u001ereceiving streams. Prince George's County, Maryland's Department of Environmental 211u001eResources has pioneered several new tools and practices in this field, which 211u001estrive to achieve good environmental designs that also make good economic sense. 211u001eThe purpose of this manual is to share some of our experiences, and show how LID 211u001ecan be applied on a national level. The LID principles outlined in these pages 211u001ewere developed over the last three years specifically to address runoff issues 211u001eassociated with new residential, commercial, and industrial suburban development. 211u001ePrince George's County, which borders Washington, DC, is rich with natural 211u001estreams, many of which support game fish. Preserving these attributes in the face 211u001eof increasing development pressure was the challenge, which led to the 211u001edevelopment of LID techniques. We describe how LID can achieve stormwater control 211u001ethrough the creation of a hydrologically functional landscape that mimics the 211u001enatural hydrologic regime.
