The Research Triangle Institute (RTI), in conjunction with SRI International, is211u001econducting a study for the U.S. Department of Education that is examining how 211u001echarter schools are serving children with diabilities. The study emphasizes field-211u001ebased data collection, with parents, teachers, administrators, and students as 211u001ethe chief sources of information on how well charter schools are working for 211u001estudents with disabilities. Specifically, the study will find and present 211u001eevidence on (1) the reasons parents are enrolling students with disabilities in 211u001echarter schools; (2) the nature of services provided to these students; 211u001eespecially in contrast to the students' previous schools; (3) outcome goals 211u001echarter schools have for students; (4) student outcome measures charter schools 211u001eemploy; and (5) the extent of students' success in the charter schools based on 211u001ethe schools' outcome goals, the states' accountability standards, and parents' 211u001eoutcome expectations.
