Guide to Remedial Measures for Liquefaction Mitigation at Existing Highway Bridge211 Sites

The seismic evaluation of an existing highway bridge requires the assessment of211u001ethe liquefaction potential of supporting soils and resulting damage to the 211u001estructure and its foundations. Where the risk of damage due to excessive 211u001edeformations associated with the development of liquefaction is judged to be 211u001eunacceptable, ground or foundation improvement can potentially be used to reduce 211u001ethe level of damage to acceptable levels. This report presents considerations for 211u001e(1) evaluating the potential for liquefaction-induced damage to an existing 211u001ehighway bridge and the need for remediation, (2) selecting and designing remedial 211u001emeasures, and (3) implementation the proposed improvement schemes in the field.
