Development of Toxics Emission Factors from Source Test Data Collected Under the211 Air Toxics Hot Spots Program. Volume 1

The California Air Resources Board sponsored a program to develop air toxic211u001eemission factors from source test data collected under the Air Toxics 'Hot Spots' 211u001eInformation and Assessment Act of 1987 (AB2588). Over 1000 Source tests have been 211u001ecollected and screened, and a subset of tests was validated in detail. The 211u001eobjective of the screening and detailed validation activities was to eliminate 211u001edata points or sets with significant problems and/or reporting deficiencies. 211u001eThrough this process the best data sets were selected for emission factor 211u001edevelopment. Over 3000 emission factors were developed for various source types 211u001eincluding asphalt dryers, external combustion units, reciprocating internal 211u001ecombustion engines, turbines, glass and metal furnaces, polystyrene reactors, 211u001ecoating and plating operations, and fugitives. The substances quantified include: 211u001etrace metals; polychlorinated dibenzo (p)dioxins and dibenzofurans; polycyclic 211u001earomatic hydrocarbons and other semivolatile organic compounds; benzene, toluene 211u001eand other volatile organic compounds; formaldehyde and other aldehydes; and 211u001ehydrochloric acid. The emission factor calculation procedures included 211u001ecategorizing each test by design and operating parameters.
