Childhood Injuries Evaluated in the Office Setting. Abstract, Executive Summaryand Final Report

Although intentional injuries are a leading cause of mortality and morbidity inchildhood, no information has been collected about how frequently child abuse is responsible for injury related office visits. This study examined the incidence of suspected child abuse injuries and the variables that affect the recognition and reporting of suspected child abuse. Health care providers in a regional practice-based network completed written survey forms that collected information about the provider's previous experience treating child abuse. These providers then prospectively collected information about consecutive office encounters giving detailed information about injury-related visits.
