In this report numerical simulation of shock wave propagation in granite blocks is studied. The code Autodyn 2D version 4.1.09-13 was used for the simulations, and the results were compared with experiments. This first part of the project was aimed to study the possibilities to use numerical simulation to predict shock wave propagation from high explosive charges. It was shown that the used material models and parameters result in acceptable agreement with the experiments. The calculated values for particle velocity and displacement overestimated the shock wave response compared with the experiments. The only exception was a simulation performed after the first experimental result was obtained. The conclusions are that further studies of the properties for the granite, and further numerical simulation is needed for verification of the numerical models. On the other hand, the numerical solution technics worked well for this type of problem and showed promising results for further work.
