Applicability of Recovery Voltage and On-Line Partial Discharge Measurements for Condition Assessment of High Voltage Power Transformers.

This thesis will focus on condition assessment methodologies of one of the most expensive electrical components: the power transformer. This power transformer fulfils an indispensable role in the AC power grid. Moreover, on the long term, this seems to be a HV asset for which it seems very difficult to establish its condition. In particular the feasibility and possibility of condition assessment of power transformers has been the subject of this thesis, specifically focusing on two important electrical methodologies: PD (partial discharges) and RVM (recovery voltage method). RVM measurements assess the global condition of the bulk insulation and PD measurement can detect local defects.
