This study was conducted by Accenture LLP for the commercialization plan, technology assessment ant IT development plan of the Provencial Electricity Authority of Thailand (PEA). It was commissioned by PEA in order to prepare itself for the changes proposed to the electricity supply industry as well as the agency's organization. Accenture reviewed three options for the future structure of PEA that have been considered in the past, but recommended a fourth option in light of the tension between stated policy objectives of the Government, and in particular the objectives of maximizing the value of PEA in the capital market; introducing retail competition into the energy markets as a market conditions warrant, and continuing to apply the uniform tariff to residential sales. This hybrid model involves separating PEA into five separate operating units. The export potential for this project is estimated to be $75-$80 million and will be composed of information technology hardware, networking hardware and software, database and operating system software, software products and services.
