The aims of this study were: To develop and compare different methods for identifying a childs primary provider, or medical home, using claims data; To characterize the specialty of providers/clinics that serve as the medical home for children with chronic diseases; and To determine whether managed care is associated (a) with the establishment of a primary provider or medical home and (b) with certain kinds of providers and/or medical practices/clinics serving as the primary provider or medical home.
