摘要

As of December 31, 2013, an estimated 949,931 persons in the United States and 6 dependent areas were living with diagnosed HIV infection. In 2014, the estimated number of new HIV diagnoses was 40,493. Although the National HIV Surveillance System collects information about persons with diagnosed HIV infection, other surveillance systems provide detailed information about care seeking, health care use, use of ancillary services, and other behaviors. In 2005, in response to an Institute of Medicine report outlining the need for representative data on persons living with HIV, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) implemented the Medical Monitoring Project (MMP).
