This document, Core Competencies:A Resource for Parole Board Chairs, Members, and Executive Staff, is the first of the series and is intended to both outline the complex and varied challenges facing paroling authorities and identify and nurture the skills needed to address those challenges. It is also a resource for appointing authorities as they consider candidates for critical positions as paroling authority members and chairs. The competencies described in this document are complex. It is NIcs hope that this document will serve as a resource toward professional excellence for the parole community.
