The purpose of this investigation was to develop a method for producing a low density, foamed-in-place material. As will be seen in the succeeding exposition, this purpose has been successfully accomplished simply, with a minimum of modification of already available low-cost commercially-produced equipment. The fundamental idea upon which this program has been based involves the saturation with gas under pressure of catalyzed and accelerated liquid polyester resin and then permitting this mixture to expand into a mold where, after curing in a matter of minutes, a permanent stable light weight foam material results. The knowledge and experience gained from the preliminary small-scale low-pressure foam process were later applied to large-scale highpressure foaming methods. (Author)
