RADIO TELETYPE TRANSMISSION ADOVE THE MUF

The signal level data obtained by Lincoln Laboratory and SCEL indicated with minor exceptions that a recordable median signal level was maintained at all times throughout the duration of the three tests. The results of the third test in the series indicated that one could expect that 91% of all transmitted lines of teletype copy would be received without errors, when using the narrow band converter system, and, when using the broad-band converter system, 86.1% of the transmitted lines would be received without errors. This test also pointed out that the signal delays in this type of propagation were of such a magnitude as to seriously interfere with the transmission of conventional FSK radio teletype information for certain portions of each 24-hour period.
