A TITRIMETRIC METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF BLOOD AND PLASMA BICARBONATE AND BUFFER CAPACITY

A measurement of the bicarbonate content of whole blood and plasma has been developed. The method is similar to existing titrimetric methods for plasma samples but differs in that the end point is- approached potentiometrically rather than colorimetrically.nIn addition to providing a direct measure of whole blood bicarbonate, the method as described can give valuable information on total buffer capacity without additional manipulations.
