The creep buckling of visco-elastic columns of rectangular cross-section is analyzed. A nonlinear differential equation is derived in terms of the creep strains at the midheight of the column. This equation is approximated by a set of ordinary differential equations, and a comparatively simple and direct numerical procedure for the solution of these equations is described. The critical times for collapse are computed for a particular example. It is shown that a closed form solution is obtained when only two equations are used in the approximation. The results are compared with previous theoretical work.
