To Conduct Research on the Feasibility of Preparing Inactivated and/or Attenuated Rubella Virus Vaccines

Four strains of rubella virus were adapted to canine kidney cells. Titers are generally lower than those observed in AGMK, although acceptable for use in potential vaccine production. An experimental lot of vaccine derived from the HPV-77 Strain with 12 additional passages in canine kidney cultures was produced and is in the final stages of safety testing. A reference virus pool grown in canine kidney was prepared from the Gilchrist Strain. (Author)
