Prediction of Movement and Intensity of Tropical Storms over the Indian Seas During the October to December Season

The wind and pressure fields relative to the storm center were studied on the basis of storms which occurred in the Indian Seas during the period October to December, 1946-1960. The main aims were (1) to evolve a synoptic climatology of the storms, and (2) to evolve an objective technique for the prediction of position and intensity of the storm 24 hours ahead. Attention was concentrated on the pressure field at the surface and the wind and vorticity fields at the 500-mb level. (Author)
