Composite Beam Tests with High-Strength Bolt Shear Connectors

Six full-scale composite beams using high strength bolts as shear connectors were tested. Design variables included size of steel beam, geometry of loading, size, number, and spacing of shear connectors, and strength and type of concrete. The beams were instrumented to measure deflection, slip, and strain, and were loaded in various cycles to failure. In addition, pushout specimens and standard 6 x 12 test cylinders were cast. After completion of the tests, standard rectangular test coupons were milled from material cut from the ends of the steel beams. The experimental results are presented in the form of load vs. deflection, load vs. end slip, slip distribution, strain distribution, and force per shear connector vs. slip graphs.
