Crack Control in Cement-Treated Bases.

摘要

The investigation was initiated to provide information on the causes and control of shrinkage cracking. First,the cracking problem is examined in accordance with the Griffith's brittle fracture theory;second,the expressions for crack-spacing and -width are modified assuming linear viscoelastic law;third,with the same viscoelastic assumption,expressions for shrinkage stresses are derived;and,last the cracking problem is studied employing dimensionally similar models. In the first phase of the study,flexural tests are performed on soil-cement beams with crack-simulating notches to determine the critical strain energy release-rate G sub C,associated with the rapid extension of the crack. Model studies are made to evaluate the crack propagation in a soil-cement pavement base. (Author)
