Forecasts of Permanence and Load-Carrying Capacity of Two Two-Part Polyurethane Resin Adhesives Proposed for Use in Building and Construction.

Adhesives A and B were two-part polyurethane adhesives similiar in composition with the main difference being viscosity when freshly mixed. Accelerated aging tests were made on adhesive A, a two-art polyurethane,to forecast the adhesive's resistance to chemical deterioration in service. It was concluded that the adhesive was sufficiently durable for building construction as long as its use was confined to bonding softwoods,and preferably plywood. Both adhesives were also evaluated to predict the stress required to rupture after continuous loading at 75 F. and 50percent relative humidity and also at 160 F., 100percent relative humidity to represent extremes in anticipated service environments.
