Inhomogeneous Deformation During the Hot Rolling of Sheet Steels,

Recent laboratory work has indicated that recrystallization of austenite following the hot rolling of thin steel strip,proceeds inhomogeneously through the strip thickness in such a way that a recrystallization front is set up which progresses from the strip surface to the strip center with increasing time. It has been suggested that this phenomenon is due to a variation in the pattern of deformation through the strip thickness. The present investigation was undertaken in order to obtain information concerning the deformation conditions in the through-thickness direction of steel strip (less than 12.5mm thick) hot rolled on a laboratory mill.
