摘要

The purpose of this nationwide project, conducted by the National Association of Social Workers, Inc. was to provide training to social work personnel working with long-term health care facilities. In cooperation with NASW affiliated chapters, training programs were conducted in 39 different locations in 31 states in each of the 10 HEW Regions. Of the approximately 2700 participants who benefited from this training endeavor, 44% were staff social workers, 33% were social work designees, 9% were social work consultants, and 14% were primarily medical social workers who worked indirectly with nursing home patients and their families. Content of the training programs included understanding patients' personal and social needs, awareness of and ability to implement the social components of health care, and sensitivity to attitudinal and other barriers to effecting quality patient care. A direct outgrowth of this project is a new contract with NASW to develop a manual for social work consultants.
