Health Hazard Evaluation Determination Report No. 77-86-439, Martin and Shaft Company, Idaho Springs, Colorado

A Health Hazard Evaluation investigation was conducted by NIOSH on July 7 at the Martin & Shaft Company in Idaho Springs, Colorado, a facility engaged in the production of friction igniters. The survey was precipitated by the employer's interest in the health of the 10 'affected' employees. Based on the results of environmental sampling and confidential employee interviews, a health hazard did not exist at the time of evaluation. The concentrations of acetone (67641), 1,1,1-trichloroethane (79005), and ethanol (64175) were well below the most recent evaluation criteria.
