Dating of Archeological Sites by Archeomagnetic Methods

This report gives a brief summary of the methods used in determining archeomagnetic dates. One section discusses the current rate of accuracy in assaying the dates. The total number of archeomagnetic dates taken to present is given with a regional breakdown of their spatial distribution. The relative dependence of these dates by region is discussed as well as progress in the study of variation in magnetic intensity during the past. Once intensity variation is better known, it will enable the dating of ceramics and other unoriented baked clay samples. A list of primary dates recently taken in various parts of the country is included as an appendix.
