The two volume study was performed by the Human Resources Management, Inc., for the Veterans Administration. The nature of this two volume study is to review and analyze the feasibiity, costs, and expected time frame for implementation of four sub-studies conducted on staffing in the VA health system for the National Academy of Sciences. These four studies are: (1) VA Dental Manpower Requirements, Marvin Marcus and Leonard Drabeck of the UCLA School Dentistry; (2) Test Application of a Psychiatric Staffing System (Project 72) in Eight VA Hospitals, Martin A. Naleway of the State of California Department of Health; (3) Study of the V.A. Nursing Service, Medicus Systems Corporation; and (4) A Study to Test and Analyze a Manpower Resource Management System for the V.A. Health System, CSF Ltd. in conjunction with Arthur Young and Co. Volume 1 of the HRM study supplies the general overview of their responsibilities to the VA, their review process, and selected comments on the NAS studies.
