Low-Level Radioactive Waste Management. Volume II: Forecast of Low-Level Radwaste Management Requirements

This study evaluates low-level waste management technology for light water reactors and identifies the problems that must be solved within the next few years to allow for the orderly development of large-scale management of low-level radioactive wastes generated at nuclear power facilities and by the nuclear power industry in California. This report is specifically concerned with the forecast of future requirements for power-reactor low-level-waste management consisting of estimates of the quantities of low-level radioactive wastes that will be generated in commercial light-water-reactor plants. Such data is useful in the planning and design of methods and facilities that will be needed for the management of these wastes. Although this report is mainly concerned with requirements for power-reactor low-level-waste management in the State of California, the requirements by non-LWR sources in California and in the United States are discussed here because of their eventual impact on the management of low-level wastes generated by LWR plants in California.
