Demographic Shifts and Projections: The Implications for Pension Systems

The age distribution is the basic foundation of the pension structure. In general, the aged are the beneficiaries of the pensions, and the non-aged are the major contributors. This first working paper from the President's Commission on Pension Policy measures future demographic trends relating to population, mortality, and female fertility and attempts to forecast the implications of these trends on future pension policy.
