This systematic review evaluates the evidence regarding the potential benefits and harms of: (1) screening adults for early-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD stages 13); (2) monitoring adults with CKD stages 13 for progression of kidney dysfunction and/or kidney damage; and (3) treating adults with CKD stages 13. This reports scope is limited to CKD stages 13 to inform patient care decisions of primary care physicians. Management of patients with CKD stages 45, generally performed by nephrologists, is outside the scope of the report. An additional aim of the report is to provide a synthesis of evidence to assist groups developing clinical practice recommendations regarding CKD screening and management.
