Evaluation and Control of Occupational Accident Potential (513). Student Manual

A student manual considering evaluation and control of workplace accident potential is presented. The plan consists of a 5 day 40 contact hour course in the workshop format for professional occupational safety and health workers. It was prepared for the NIOSH Division of Training and Manpower Development by the Indiana University Institute for Research in Public Safety. The course contains 16 lessons that deal with principles of hazard control management, hazard identification and assessment, techniques and strategies for control of undesired energy release, monitoring and inspection, and evaluation of safety and health programs. After completing the course, the student should be able to identify the major components of an occupational safety program, identify and assess system safety hazards, perform a job hazard analysis, identify and select appropriate techniques for controlling undesired energy release, conduct a safety or accident inspection, identify cause in an injury producing sequence, evaluate the success of the Accident Control Program, describe the principles of hazard control management, and design and conduct a monitoring and compliance system. Self tests are provided with each lesson.
