This report is part of a project to determine the adequacy of the Federal Mobile Home Construction and Safety Standard in terms of ensuring satisfactory long - term durability performance of mobile homes. This section concerns the determination of long - term durability performance of mobile homes and the development of procedures for possible inclusion in the standards. Evaluation of mobile home performance was done with mobile home construction materials in the laboratory as well as on site, with mobile home test units set up as if for occupancy. Performance measurements were taken at intervals during simulated aging of test components or units. The development of prototype durability test procedures involved selection of appropriate performance criteria and test conditions suitable for testing in mobile home manufacturing plants on production - line units as well as on innovative designs. Proposed test procedures were also weighed in relation to evaluation, production acceptance testing, and capability of estimating long - term durability performance. Both preferred and an alternate test procedures or performance criteria were developed for most areas of concern. Proposed tests are presented for the following: wind, rain, and dust environmental test; corrosion resistance of external fasteners; moisture resistance of floor materials; condensate control tests; roof rumble resistance; and alignment of multiwide units. Appended are data sheets documenting the various test procedures. Tabular data, charts, and photographs are given.
