Diagnostic-Feasibility Study, Wood Lake, Benson County, North Dakota, Phase 1

The main problems in Wood Lake, North Dakota are increases in the nutrients, nitrogen and phosphorus which led to excessive algae and rooted plants (aquatic macrophytes). Plant decomposition has caused oxygen depletion and threatens fishkills. Also, there is an overabundance of stunted perch in the lake. Restoration should focus on reducing phosphorus loading through erosion controls such as riprap of the shoreline. Fish could be eradicated with rotenone or thiodan and fish netting, followed by restocking.
