Intellectual, Psychological and Neurological Functioning in the Older Adult

This bibliography was compiled from an extended series of computer-based literature searches, including searches of MEDLINE, ERIC, Psychological Abstracts, and Dissertation Abstracts. The descriptive terms that were used included combinations of the following: gerontology, older adults, aging, intelligence, cognition, dementia, tests, intelligence tests, and psychological tests. Subsequently, further searches were made of selected volumes of Research in Education and Psychological Abstracts, as well as of the references cited in previously located publications. Publications were included primarily if they incorporate measured intelligence as a variable of interest. The variety of variables which were found to be studied concurrently with intelligence led to the bibliography's broad scope, as reflected in the subtopic headings. The contents of the bibliography are divided into seven subtopics: (1) Psychometric tests and the elderly; (2) Psychological tests and neurological states; (3) Assessment of psychological or psychiatric disorders; (4) Psychological or intellectual changes with advanced age; (5) Psychological or intellectual changes associated with disease or treatment; (6) Biochemical, biological, physiological, or physical changes and tests; (7) Study methods, psychological test development and validation.
