The report deals with the natural environment of the Upper Delaware National Scenic and Recreational River. The chapter part of geology of the Upper Delaware reviews previous geological research, the geological history and evolution of the region, and economic geology, includes an inventory and maps of interesting and perhaps significant geological sites and areas, and last provides an annotated bibliography of books and articles that touch on such subjects as hydrology, bedrock geology, bluestone quarrying, peat mining, and alluvial deposition. The chapter part of biology discusses the history of vegetational change, economic use of fish, wildlife, and native vegetation during the 19th and 20th centuries, and then identifies species known or likely to be found in the Upper Delaware, as well as indicates their general abundance and habitats; an exhaustive annotated bibliography concludes the lengthy part.
