Shearer Mounted Dust Collector Laboratory Testing

Effective control of respirable dust is one of the most serious problems associated with longwall mining in the United States. This report describes the development and laboratory testing of dust collectors for use on double drum shearers. Systems tested included a high-capacity flooded-bed scrubber, water-powered extraction cowls, water-powered extraction drums, and water-powered spot scrubbers. The systems were tested using tracer gas in a full-scale model of a longwall shearer face. The report provides a detailed description of the test facility, test methods, and system test results.
