Suggested Measures of Nutritional Status and Health Conditions for the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey

The report reviews recommendations of an ad hoc Expert Panel on assessments of nutritional status and health conditions that may be included in the third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) in 1988. The Panel was convened for the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, Food and Drug Administration, a major user of NHANES data. The Panel examined information on indicators of status and, when applicable, excess accumulation of 21 selected nutrients and health conditions of interest to FDA. In addition, the Panel reached conclusions on the appropriateness of including each nutrient and health condition in NHANES III.
