Lidar Observations of Stratospheric Aerosol over Mauna Loa Observatory: 1984-1985

Eighty-five lidar profiles obtained during the years 1984-1985 are presented. Backscattering ratios are displayed in graphical form for 1-km intervals. Aerosol back scatter cross section, Rayleigh back scatter cross section, back scatter ratios, and integrated optical thickness, all for 1-km intervals per kilometer are displayed in tabular form. This is the third Mauna Loa lidar data report to be issued. It contains figures and tables for 85 individual stratospheric aerosol lidar soundings. The stratospheric aerosol remaining from the eruption of El Chichon (17 degrees N, 19 degrees W) March 28 and April 4, 1982, is still seen in the lidar data. The contribution from this eruption was comparatively small even though the eruption itself was quite violent.
