New Way to Solve Volterra Equations of the Second Kind

A new way is proposed to solve Volterra equations of second kind. The given kernel is approximated with a degenerate one using finite elements, and the integral equation is reduced to a system of ordinary differential equations. Because of the local nature of the finite elements, the amount of work needed to solve the system remains small, although the system itself can be quite large.
