The report presents findings from the National Vietnam Veterans Readjustment Study (NVVRS). The NVVRS had three broad goals, as mandated by the Congress and evolved by the Veterans Administration, its consultants, and the research team: To provide information about the incidence, prevalence, and effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and related post-war psychological problems among Vietnam veterans; To describe comprehensively the total life adjustment of Vietnam theater veterans and to compare their adjustment to the adjustment of era veterans (persons who served in the Armed Forces during the Vietnam era but did not serve in the Vietnam theater) and nonveterans; To provide detailed scientific information about PTSD in particular.
