摘要

Excavations were conducted in 1957 and 1958 by the Smithsonian Institution River Basin Surveys(SIRBS) at the Medicine Crow archaeological site, Buffalo County, South Dakota. Volume 2 of 2 contains appendix data for the full report. All or portions of 22 earthlodges and many other features were excavated in village-age parts of the site. Multivariate analysis of pottery attributes and many other data sets leads to the conclusion that village-age samples are best treated as two coeval occupations, one each in Areas A and C. Both are assigned to the Talking Crow phase of the Post-Contact Coalescent variant, dated ca. A.D. 1740-1760. Villagers' technology was much influenced by the fur trade. Area B excavations revealed several components dated 3000-8000 B.P. and assigned to all periods of the Archaic. The Logan Creek complex is best represented.
