In the work the principal subjects focused are concerning the use of a squirrelcage generator in a small hydro plant, the automation of the command sequences of a turbine/induction generator system, the level regulation and the transient behavior of the induction generator following disturbances in the utility's transmission and distribution system. As a consequence, electrical, hydraulic, command functions, protections and regulator models are performed. The sequences are implemented in a programmable controller (PLC) standard; a sampled proportional, integral and derivative regulator is studied, and is performed an algorithm to be implemented in the PLC. Finally, the behavior of the generator in a DSG installation following a three-phase fault or a sudden loss of load situation is studied. As soon as the work is performed, are presented the methodologies followed, the assumptions made, namely in the hydraulic system. Emphasis of some problems to be in attention during DSG's studies or projects are drawn, particularly in the electrical system. Particular care is taken in the electrical load, distribution line, protective devices, namely the overvoltage, undervoltage, overfrequency and underfrequency relays, the regulator, the linear and no-linear turbine models. Special attention is dedicated to the design and the performance of the regulator.
