Dehydrochlorination of Poly (Vinyl Chloride) in Solution by Weak Bases.

The dehydrochlorination of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) induced by n-butylamine, diethylamine and triethylamine in cyclohexanone solvent has been studied. The reactions were followed by measuring the amount of amine consumed at different time intervals. The kinetics of dehydrochlorination was considered under various sets of conditions and the initial rate constants were determined. The activation energies for dehydrochlorination of PVC have also been calculated and are in the range of 30-52 KJ/mol.
