Paleontology of Cheek Bend Cave, Maury County, Tennessee. Phase 2 Report to the Tennessee Valley Authority

The report presents an initial attempt to demonstrate the probable occurrence of paleoenvironmental change in the Tennessee valley Authority's proposed Columbia Reservoir and to assess the potential paleontological significance of materials from one cave (Cheek Bend Cave - 40MU261) in the reservoir take area. The site's importance transcends that of merely providing useful data for interpretation of Holocene environmental dynamics in that deeply stratified deposits contain both faunal and floral materials which extend well beyond the earliest known human habitation (ca. 11,000 to 12, 000 YBP) in the Midsouth.
