摘要

There is a quite serious discrepancy in the literature, in the electron energy (Eo) range 5-10 eV, between the most recent O(sub 2) elastic differential cross section (DCS) measurements, particularly for electron scattering angles less than 60 deg. This disagreement is reflected in both the shape and magnitude of the respective DCS's. In order to investigate this further the authors have developed an crossed electron-molecular beam apparatus which allowed them to apply the relative flow technique, for absolute elastic DCS determination, to, in this case, the e(sup -) + O(sub 2) scattering system. It was found that at each of the three energies investigated, E(sub o) = 5, 7 and 10 eV, the present DCS results were in excellent agreement, to within the uncertainties on the measured data, with those previously reported. 20 refs., 1 tab. 1 fig.
