Numerical techniques of solving partial differential equations are applied to several problems in fully developed pipe flow. The Navier-Stokes equations are written exactly for viscous, incompressible, uniform fluid flow. Velocity profiles in the pipe are plotted for a flow starting from rest and a parabolic flow stopping or coming to rest. By writing the differential equations in Terries of mean flow, solutions can be obtained to a pipe flow specified only as a mean flow pulse. Such solutions have applications to physiological flow pulses in the aorta provided the neglect of entry length effects is justified.
