摘要

The influence of gases on the surface-dark-conductivity of beta carotene was measured. Like in the case of phthalocyanine it was found that the conductivity depends strongly on the type of gas brought into contact with the sample. Pronounced effects (conductivity changes by factors 10,000) were registered for SO2, NH3 and NO2 whereas O2, H2S, CO and Cl2 gave only small responses (by factors smaller that 100). Also water vapor had a large effect in this case. The results for beta carotene are compared with those obtained for phtalocyanine. The large differences between the sensitivity toward chlorine and sulphur dioxide are of particular interest (Author)
