DEVELOPMENT TESTING OF A SHUTTLE URINE COLLECTION SYSTEM

Flight tests conducted in December 1973 demonstrated the sbility of an unisexual urine collection subsystem to function in a "zero-g" environment. The urinal, which could be adjusted with three degrees of freedom, accommodated 16 female test subjects with a wide range of stature, as well as five male test subjects. The urinal was in intimate contact with the female and was contoured to form an effective air seal at the periphery. When positioned 2-4 inches forward, the urinal could be used for male collection and contact was not required.
