The purpose of the ERTS program is to provide an assessment of remote sensing from a satellite as a technique for inventorying and monitoring the earth's resources to provide for better management of these resources.nThis Symposium provided the first open forum where the users of the ERTS data had the opportunity to present the significant accomplishments from their investigations. It also provided the first opportunity for representatives of federal, state, and local organizations to present their views on how ERTS data are being used and will be used for solving opera¬tional resource management problems.
