The reflection factor of an iris-loaded infinite phased-array antenna consisting of rectangular waveguides was calculated. Expressions were derived for the tangential components of the electromagnetic field vectors in the various domains. The analysis is based upon the expansion of the tangential electric aperture field in terms of a complete set of judiciously chosen functions. A matching procedure leads to an infinite set of algebraic equations in which the expansion coefficients of the aperture field occur as unknowns. The relevant system is solved numerically employing a judicious truncation. From the numerical results it can be concluded that the presence of an iris only does not necessarily lead to a remarkable improvement. (Author)
