摘要

A sixth order differential equation of motion has been derived for the flexural vibrations of a beam of hollow circular cross-section to which damping has been introduced by the addition of a constrained viscoelastic shear layer. This equation has the same form as that derived by Mead and Markus (9, 10) for a flat three-layered sandwich beam. Solutions have been obtained for clamped free end conditions of a beam having an arbitrary number of constraining segments around its circumference, and a parameter study has been made in order to show the variation of the beam modal loss factor with various parameters important in the design of damped structural composites.
